In India, the practice of buying fonts is often deemed unnecessary. There is a common incorrect presumption that all fonts either come free with the computer or are freely downloadable. In reality, fonts are softwares which are licensed.

There are several reasons why one should buy fonts-

1.Quality - In case of Indian Scripts, the Choice of free fonts is limited. These fonts usually have missing or poor quality glyphs with limited weight and style options. Buying fonts from Ektype is an assurance of quality (investment in carefully considered design) with complete (comprehensive) glyph sets and a large weight family (font family with several weights).

2.Support - If you get stuck or are unable to use our fonts we are able to provide timely help on usage and other issues.

Buying fonts would encourage an interest in type design as a profession motivating more people to design fonts. This in turn would prompt and aid in production/ design of better Indian fonts, qualitatively and even in terms of variety to be made available for usage.

Refund / Return Policy

As a general policy, Ek Type orders are non-refundable. Fonts once purchased/downloaded cannot be refunded, exchanged or returned. In case of any technical defect in the fonts, updated fonts may be provided if notified within 7 days of purchasing the fonts. In case of incorrect fonts being delivered or if there is any problem with the order, the customer should notify us within 24 hrs of purchase for us to be able to resolve the issue.

Licencing & Usage

Just as you require a license to use a software, similarly, you require a licence to use a font (a font is actually a software). When you “buy a font” from Ek type you purchase a licence to use to font for a specific purpose and for a specific set of users. The type of licence and the cost of the font is therefore determined by the nature of use and the number of people who will use the font. When you purchase a font for a specific licence, you agree to (and are legally bound) to use the font according to the terms and conditions mentioned in the EULA (End-User License Agreement), that you receive along with the font.

Types of Licences

At present Ek Type offer fonts under the following licences.

  • PRINT/DESKTOP LICENSE

    The print license allows the user to use the fonts for any print media, or as an image in the digital media.

  • E-BOOK LICENSE

    This license includes the right to use and embed the fonts in one E-Book title.

  • E-MAGAZINE LICENCE

    The license includes the right to use and embed the fonts in multiple issues of one E-magazine title for a Period of 1 year.

  • APP EMBEDDING LICENSE

    This license includes the right to use and embed the fonts in one application which may be available for use across various mobile / handheld and / or any such platforms for a period of 2 years.

  • BROADCAST LICENSE

    If the fonts are required to be used for titling, credits or other text for any onscreen broadcast for a television channel, video or motion picture, a separate broadcast licence needs to be purchased from Ektype.

  • SELF HOSTING LICENSE

    This license includes the right to host the fonts on a web server and use the fonts for a single domain for a period of 2 years

  • CORPORATE LICENSE

    This license includes the right to install and use the fonts on unlimited systems at various locations of a company/ corporation. If you wish to purchase a corporate license, do get in touch.

  • CUSTOM REQUIREMENT

    If your requirement does not fall within the limits of the above mentioned licenses or if you wish to customise any of our typefaces as per your specific requirements or if you want us to develop a completely new typeface for you do get in touch with us

END USER LICENCE AGREEMENT (For Print Licencing)
Downloading of Ek Devanagari font software from EK TYPE signifies your assent to the below terms and conditions

  • 1. LICENSE

    The Fonts have been licensed by Ek Type to the Authorised User for its use. The license includes the right to install and use the Fonts on one portable device i.e. laptop / notebook or on one workstation / PC at a single location. These machines are permitted to be connected to various output devices such as printers, film recorders etc. Downloading of the Fonts to the memory of an output device is permitted on a temporary basis. In the event more than a single user wishes to use the Fonts, a multiple user license can be purchased from Ek Type.

  • 2. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

    Ek Type shall remain the worldwide, sole and exclusive owner of all the intellectual property rights, title and interest in the Font in perpetuity. Ek Type is the sole, exclusive distributor of the font. The Authorised User shall only have a non-exclusive right to use the Font. Ek Type shall be the sole and exclusive owner of its copyright, trademarks, trade names, brand, logo, creative, designs and all other intellectual property associated with the Font.

  • 3. OWNERSHIP OF WORK PRODUCT

    The designer / user shall be the owners of the intellectual property rights of the designs / artworks created by using the Font for any purpose whatsoever.

  • 4. MODIFICATIONS

    The Authorised User shall not himself and / or permit any third party / person / entity to copy, adapt, modify, enhance, disassemble, decompile, edit, correct, morph, destroy, tamper, mutilate, add any functionality or alter in any manner, the Font which would result in the development of a completely new font than the Font delivered to the Authorised User.

  • 5. ASSIGNMENT

    Selling, leasing, renting, sub-licensing, lending or dealing with the Font in any manner shall not be permitted for personal or business purposes.

  • 6. THIRD PARTY USE

    In the event the Font is required to be used by branding agencies, clients and/or any third party/ person/ entity engaged in the development of any content for the Authorised User, they shall have to obtain a separate license from Ek Type to use the Font.

  • 7. EMBEDDING AND BROADCASTING

    The Authorised User shall be permitted to embed the Font in PDF format in a secured, read-only mode and shall ensure that extraction of the Font from such documents is disabled. If the Font has to be embedded in an e-book, e-magazine, mobile application or web hosting, then the user shall have to obtain a separate license from Ek Type. In the event the fonts are required to be used for branding, titling, credits or other text for any onscreen broadcast for a television channel (excluding music videos, films and advertising commercials) a separate broadcast licence needs to be purchased from Ektype.

  • 8. TERMINATION

    Any breach of the terms and conditions of this Agreement shall be considered a valid cause for the termination of this Agreement. On termination, the Authorised User shall immediately return all copies of the Font to Ek Type and submit an undertaking that it has no more copies in its possession.

  • 9. MISCELLANEOUS

    The font shall be used by the User only for the specific purposes as mentioned in this Agreement. In the event, the User is desirous of using the Font for any other purpose which is not specifically mentioned herein, the User shall take a prior written permission for the same from EK Type. Ek Type shall retain the right to permit or refuse such use as it may deem fit.

  • 10. WARRANTIES

    Ek Type makes no warranties, express or implied for the compatibility or suitability of the Font for any purpose whatsoever and shall not be responsible for any direct, indirect, consequential or incidental damages, including damages arising from loss of profits arising out of the inability to use the Font for a particular purpose and Ek Type shall under no circumstances offer any refund for the Font purchased. The fonts have been developed to be complaint with Unicode standards. Ek type does not provide any warranties regarding the use of the font in any software, which does not support Unicode.

  • 11. GOVERNING LAW

    This Agreement (and any dispute or claim relating to it, its enforceability or its termination) is to be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. The competent Courts/Tribunals at Mumbai shall have the exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes relating to the subject matter of this Agreement.

Please note that all the terms and conditions of this Agreement are equally applicable to all the users whether single users under a single user license or multiple users under a multiple user license.

Installing Fonts

The downloaded file from Ek type fonts will be in the form of a ZIP archive (.zip)

First, unzip the contents of the ZIP file.

In Windows XP or newer, double-click on the ZIP file.

It will open in a new window. You can then extract the contents to another folder.

In Mac OS X, when you doubleclick on the ZIP file,

a new folder containing the extracted files will be created next to the ZIP file.

You can also use softwares like WinZip to unpack these files.

Installing fonts on Windows

Installing the fonts on Windows7 and 8

1.Select the font files (.ttf extension)

2.right click on them and then click install

1.go to Start> Control Pannel> Appearance and Personalization> Fonts

2.To install the fonts, Drag and drop the selected fonts into the Fonts window

Installing the fonts on Windows Vista

1.go to Start> Control Panel> Appearance and Personalization> Fonts

2.click on File> Install New Fonts

(If you don’t see the File menu, press ALT)

3.In the Add Fonts dialog box, go to the desired folder location

4.Select the font files and click OK to Install the fonts

1. Double-click on the font file. A preview window will open.

2. Click the "Install Font" button that appears below the font preview.

1. In Finder click on Go> Applications> FontBook

2. In FontBook, Click on File menu choose Add Fonts

3. Select the font or a folder containing multiple fonts, then click Open to install the font

How To Activate Language Bar

Windows 7

1. Go to Start – Control Panel.

2. In Normal view, select Change keyboard or other input methods from under Clock,Language and Region.

3. If you’re in classic view, select Regional and Language options.

4. Select Change Keyboards.

5. Choose desired languages from the list by clicking on Add.. and expand them using the (+) sign.Then expand the item which says (Keyboard) and tick INSCRIPT keyboard layout.

6. Select (OK) and (OK) again to save the changes.

Windows 8 & 10

1. Go to Start – Settings.

2. Select Time and Language (Speech region and date)

3. Choose Region and Language from top left corner.

4. Click on (+) Sign and choose Hindi (India). Click on the selected Language and click on options

5.Click on Add a Keyboard and choose INSCRIPT

6. Go back and your changes are saved.

2. Click on Keyboard settings inside the menu

3. Find Input sources and click on (+) icon

4. Find Hindi/Devanagari and click OK

5. Default keyboard set will be INSCRIPT

6. Choose desired languages from the list and expand them using the (+) sign. Then expand the item which says (Keyboard) and tick INSCRIPT keyboard layout.

7.Language can be changed from top of the desktop window anytime.
