1. What is Peering?

Peering is a process by which two Internet networks connect and exchange traffic. In Simple terms Peering is direct interconnection between the networks namely content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDN), DNS root servers, Telecommunications, Internet Service Providers, IPTV networks and other networks for the exchange of traffic between the networks. Networks come together to interconnect and directly exchange traffic. Peering makes Internet more affordable and faster for the end user.

2. What is India-IX?

India-IX is a Mumbai based operator of Neutral Internet Exchange, India-IX Runs Three Internet Exchanges in Metro cities named as Mumbai-IX, Delhi-IX & Chennai-IX in Mumbai, Delhi & Chennai respectively. India-IX is owned by DECIX Interwire Internet services pvt Ltd.

3. Does India-IX charge for usage like NIXI?

No, Mumbai IX commercials are limited to Port Charges and One-time membership charges. We don’t charge for Volume or Usage.

4. What are the benefits of Peering?

Peering allows ISP’s to connect directly with Content Networks & Other ISP’s which results with Bandwidth savings up to 80-90% on case to case basis.

5. What will be the total expenditure for connecting with India-IX?

The Cost depends on various factors like port capacities, P2P connectivity etc. India-IX pricing is same as it is available for current peers. If you have any specific query then mail us at sales@india-ix.net

6. How much time will it take to connect with India-IX?

Timelines are dependent on your NLD connectivity or Cross Connect Delivery (In case of having presence in India-IX Enabled sites). Expected timeline for NLD/P2P connectivity is considered as 3-4 weeks and India-IX Cross connect and BGP config will take maximum 1 Week.

7. Do India-IX help with TSP (Telecom Service Provider) for NLD?

Yes, we can introduce you to right people but nothing more than that, further conversation has to be taken care by you.

8. How should I know how much peering do I need?

It depends on your existing bandwidth utilization, Type of End Users. We normally suggest networks to go for 80% peering of your existing bandwidth utilization. To know more, you can write us sales@india-ix.net

9. What is with SLA and without SLA Pricing?

India-IX no more provide without SLA Services, Our all services include Industry backed SLA.

10. Can I earn a commission for referring someone to India-IX?

11. What will be the latency?

Latency will be calculated as your P2P latency from your location to our location & 1-2ms at our end.

12. Do I need a license to peer with you?

What we require is just a valid ASN (Autonomous System Number) for connectivity.

13. Procedure to Connect India-IX?

Apply for India-IX Membership and Sign Agreement. Pay the India-IX Membership fee. Order P2P and Cross connect/order Cross Connect from IX’s Switch to your Router.(Applicable you are already having Presence in India-IX Enabled DC’s) Establish BGP with IX’s route server. Create Rules and Filters.

14. What if I need peering in multiple drops?

Even if you need a multiple drops, you need to have a same port by taking the connectivity at your end and then you can distribute the same to your multiple drops.

15. Is, the one-time registration fee is refundable?

No it is not.

16. Do I need a license to peer with you?

Yes, will give you a lifetime support related to configuration, traffic, fluctuation, and other technical issues. India-IX provide 24x7 Technical support.

17. What if I stop someday and again want to peer?

There won't be any charges for peering again even if you stop for some period of time.

18. What is ASN and why it is required?

ASN (Autonomous System Number) is a unique identity of your network, is required to connect our AS number with your AS number. To know what is ASN read the Blog Here.

19. What is "transit"?

When one ISP pays another ISP for the right to send traffic across their network, this is known as "transit".

20. Which router do I need to connect with India-IX?

We normally prefer Cisco, Microtik, Huawei & Juniper. In case of Another Router, the Configuration part needs to be taken care from your end.
