Apart from providing Public Peering ports, India-IX is also very supportive in getting our members optimal routing and peering relations over that port. India-IX provide following flavors of support:

Do-It-Yourself Bilateral Peering

As is custom on Internet Exchanges, you can negotiate with other individual Exchange Members to set up bilateral peering. India-IX supports this effort in several ways:

Offering itself as an initial peer to set up the first bilateral peering session with (as an example and test);
Publishing members on the India-IX Member List for other members to be seen;
Publishing the peering policy and contact information of new customers on the India-IX website for existing members to use;
Announcing new members in an email to all existing members once the connection is into production;
Giving new members access to the 'announce' mailing list so they can announce themselves and their willingness to peer in the form of an invitation to all other members;
Giving new members access to the list with peerings policies and contact information of all existing members on India-IX;
Supporting the PeeringDB effort where networks can register their peering contact, policy and other details as applicable over multiple Internet Exchanges;
Route Server (Public Peering)

Route servers facilitate Multilateral Peering. A single BGP session with each route server allows you to see the prefixes of all of the other networks (with an open peering policy) peering with the route servers. The route servers preserve the sending peer's next-hop and other prefix attributes. No traffic is ever routed by the route servers, they simply facilitate prefix exchange. Route servers support both IPv4 and IPv6 and 4byte ASNs

IPv6 Peering

India-IX members can exchange IPv4 and IPv6 traffic on their India-IX ports. Once you have configured your IPv6 peering address, please contact India-IX Support, as you should then turn up an IPv6 collector session. Our Route Servers also support IPv6.

Premium Peering

Some networks which might be very important for you have a very restricted peering policy and are generally very Hard-To-Get for normal peering. For some of those parties India-IX can facilitate Premium Peering

Global Transit

Multiple carriers in the India-IX Global Transit Community offer full global routing based on Global (Internet) Transit.

Global (Internet) Transit

A Transit service provides advertisement of your routes (IP addresses) to the entire Internet (attracting incoming traffic), and worldwide routing (of outgoing traffic) from your network to all prefixes on the Internet. See Wikipedia for an extensive description of what a Global (Internet) Transit is.

For existing India-IX members it is interesting to have access to the services of a diverse group of carriers in the Global Transit community Often this service can technically be combined with an existing India-IX port. If so, this Global Routing is even cheaper. Sometimes a dedicated port is required.
